North American Aviation P-51D Mustang 'Weaver's Nude'.
This P-51D Mustang is modeled after Charles .E. Weaver's aircraft. Born on July 30, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, Charles Weaver was attending Michigan State University when he applied for pilot training with the U. S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He served with the Mighty Eighth Air Force; stationed in Leiston, England, he was with the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group. Flying a series of P-51 Mustangs, Capt. Charles E. "Chuck" Weaver achieved Ace status with 8 A2A victories and 3 A2G, and was awarded The Distingusihed Flying Cross (one Oak Leaf Cluster), The Air Medal (fifteen oak Leaf Clusters) and The French Croix de Guerre (Palm).
This P-51D was once owned by Lefty Gardner and flown as Thunderbird #25 where it won first place in the Unlimited Gold Class in 1976.
